Swabian towns in Bavaria

Günzburg

  • Günzburg is without any doubt one of the most charming towns on the river Danube. The Great County Seat owns a wonderful historic town center, affectionately reconstructed, with picturesque alleys, corners and a marketplace well worth seeing that may invite you to stay a bit longer. This town on the banks of the river Danube was founded in the year 77 A.D., belonged to Further Austria for 500 years and had his heyday under the reign of Maria Theresia (1740 – 1780). The modern Günzburg has developed to a progressive center with large trading area. After the opening of the leisure park Legoland in the year 2002, the small town with 20,000 inhabitants has become one of the biggest tourist attractions in Bavaria. Günzburg offers a lot of sport and free-time activities as well as a varied cultural program. All over the year, events such as concerts, theater, cabaret, and lectures etc. take place in the Forum am Hofgarten.
