Wertingen

The endearing and friendly town in the valley of the river Zusam (30 km north-west of Augsburg) has many faces and something to offer to every visitor: to the towntrotter, the historian, the lover of arts, and the passionate sportsman and sportswoman. The rebuilt and renovated market place with its cozy city center the point of attraction. Under the historic facades of old stud work houses, you may find shops, cafés, restaurants and a weekly market.

Sights and museums

Castle 14th/17th century with museum of local history (3000 items);
open during the office hours of the administration:
Monday to Friday 8.00-12.00 o’clock and Monday to Wednesday 14.00-17.00 o’clock, Tuesday 14.00-18.00 o’clock. Guided tours for groups, even in the evening and at week-ends after reservation on the phone. Entrance free. The museum landscape has been extended by adding an oven museum.
Städtische Sammlung für zeitgenössische Kunst und Martin-Blümel-Stube (collection of modern art)
In the local gallery next to the castle, Schulstraße 10, open during the official opening hours of exhibitions. Entrance free.
Baroque parish church St. Martin
(only crenellated twin-tower church in Germany, towers dating back to the 13th century, Baroque pilgrimage church „Maria Heimsuchung“ Gottmannshofen
(Enderle-frescos); numerous reconstructed frame-work buildings from the 17th/18th century in the cityscape.

Recreation facilities and possibilities:
Heated open-air and indoor pool with sauna and solarium, tennis (indoor and outdoor courts), mini golf, curling on ice and asphalt, pony riding, bike renting, bowling, hiking trails, Zusam-biking trail from Dinkelscherben via Wertingen to the link to the Danube biking trail near Buttenwiesen. The sculpture trail „Donauried“ at the biking trail Via Danubia from Günzburg via Wertingen to Oberndorf on the Lech.
