Lauingen

The townscape of Lauingen is characterized by a medieval gabled scenery from which six – mostly gothic towers – emerge amongst which the very landmark, the slim Schimmelturm. A lot of sights, such as the late-gothic cathedral of St. Martin ( the only Bavarian hall-church), the ducal castle (today foster home) or the mosque opened in 1996 with minaret invite to be visited. Tradition is high value in Lauingen (11,000 inhabitants), the native town of Albertus Magnus: that’s why the annual Leonhardiritt (a horse ride) ride and the large carnival procession attract visitors from near and far.
